Les Rodriguez  is currently the Director of Program Management, Technical Communications and Site Manager for Beckman Coulter Inc., at the Kendall facility in Miami. 

 

Les Rodriguez is the former Director of Quality.  His persistent commitment to quality improvement and out of the box thinking has resulted in increased productivity, efficiency and effectiveness for the organization.  He has been instrumental in instilling increased awareness of quality and regulatory compliance responsibility at Beckman Coulter.  Beckman Coulter is a medical device manufacturer and adheres to strict federal and international regulatory requirements.  Failure to comply with quality and regulatory requirements can have devastating impact on the organization’s credibility and profitability.

 

Les has worked in Quality and Operations related function for over 23 years.  Following are some of his achievements with emphasis on his activities in 2005.

 

 

Significant contribution to organizational improvement and success

Designed and implemented a quality/financial review process called the Gate Review process for assessment of product development projects.

Designed a Six Sigma based methodology to address and manage current business projects.

bullet

Launched the organization’s first Six Sigma project.

bullet

Launched the organization’s first Design For Six Sigma project.

Sponsor of eight Six Sigma teams.

bullet

Developed an abbreviated development process, compliant with FDA requirements, for less invasive development projects.

bullet

Co-developed site disaster recovery plan for effective preparation and response to potentially damaging weather systems.

Concluded a three year Six Sigma project to re-engineer the company’s customer complaint handling systems with the following accomplishments;

97% reduction in the number of overdue customer complaint investigations.

·      The implementation of a risk-based assessment of incoming complaints.  100% of incoming complaints are now systematically evaluated.

·      The improvement of the evaluation process has resulted in a 70% reduction in the number of customer complaints assigned for investigation. 

·      A cost reduction/avoidance of more than $9,000,000 annually.

·      Implementation of interactive decision-trees in the Call Center for the diagnosing and ‘typing’ of incoming calls and escalation to customer complaints. 

·      Implementation of a statistical validated tracking and trending process with defined trigger levels for each symptom code and each product line.

·      Adoption and procedurization of key Six Sigma improvement tools for use in other applications. 

·      Validation of new customer complaint management process.

Les is a member of an improvement team chartered with enhancing the product development processes utilizing six sigma techniques.

Les has instituted improvement and quality accountability within the project management culture.

Les spearheaded a Six Sigma team to evaluate and improve our verification and validation processes within the development center to ensure defects are captured before the products are commercialized.  His involvement has resulted in a comprehensive V&V methodology.

Les spearheaded a Six Sigma team to evaluate failure in the field of power supplies.  Design modifications were adopted resulting in $100,000 annual cost savings and cost avoidance of $3.3 million dollars world-wide.

Les is leading a Six Sigma team to improve the productivity and efficiency of a reagent manufacturing product line.

During 2005, Les re-defined the role of Program Management to strengthening regulatory compliance.
